Ellen DeGeneres termed 'notoriously one of the meanest people alive' by former staff and fans

Popular television personality Ellen DeGeneres is currently amid a social media controversy. The host of the television talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, received flak and criticism for her not-so-kind and generous behaviour towards others on the sets of her show and otherwise. The controversy, which started off when comedian Kevin T. Porter, on his Twitter account on March 20, called Ellen 'notoriously one of the meanest people alive'. It happened so that Kevin kickstarted an initiative on Twitter wherein he asked people to share the most insane stories they've heard about Ellen in an effort to raise money for the Los Angeles Food Bank.

"Right now we all need a little kindness. You know, like Ellen Degeneres always talks about! She’s also notoriously one of the meanest people alive Respond to this with the most insane stories you’ve heard about Ellen being mean & I’ll match every one w/ $2 to @LAFoodBank," Kevin tweeted. Soon after, his Twitter account was flooded with some stories of Ellen's alleged poor behaviour.

Kevin, however, before scanning through all the comments, mentioned that the stories should be real. "Oh and the caveat is yes they have to be real! Cause we need some REAL kindness right now," he wrote.

Moments later, one of the user commented by saying, "A) She has a "sensitive nose" so everyone must chew gum from a bowl outside her office before talking to her and if she thinks you smell that day you have to go home and shower. B) A new staff member was told "every day she picks someone different to really hate. It's not your fault, just suck it up for the day and she'll be mean to someone else the next day. They didn't believe it but it ended up being entirely true." The other revealed an incident by writing, "A friend of mine told me about a custodian she knew who was fired bc he was slightly autistic and forgot he wasn't allowed to look at or speak to her, and he loved greeting everyone."

One of the users narrated a tale when Ellen 'almost got her fired'. "I worked @RealFoodDaily, served her & Porsha at brunch. She wrote a letter to the owner & complained about my chipped nail polish (not that it was on her plate but just that it was on my hand). I had worked till closing the night before & this was next morn, almost got me fired," she commented. Yet another user was ready with the comment that read, "My friend is a Carpenter and he and his crew worked on Ellen’s deck in her backyard at her estate. Not only was she rude and didn’t offer them water or a bathroom to use, she ended up skimping on the full payment for the job and said it wasn’t to her specifications when it was"

Ellen is yet to address this controversy.
