Olivia Wilde to direct Marvel's Spider-Woman film for Sony Pictures? Her tweet indicates so

Diversifying the universe of female superheroes, Sony Pictures has roped in Olivia Wilde to develop a 'secret Marvel film' that orbits around a female character. Reportedly, the story will be around Spider-Woman. Sony Pictures, of late, has been focusing on establishing their own Spider-verse with projects revolving around Spider-Man and other related characters.

The film directed by Olivia which is reportedly based on Spider-Woman will be written by Katie Silberman. Amy Pascal will be producing it while Rachel O’Connor is the executive producer. For the unversed, Olivia, Katie and Amy have collaborated for a Christmas buddy film for Universal Pictures. Talking of Spider-Woman, the character made its first appearance in the '70s. It has been the alter ego of characters like Jessica Miriam Drew (the first to don the suit), Gwendolyne Maxine Stacy and Mary Jane Watson. Now, with Olivia stepping in, it remains interesting to see what direction does the story and character take.

Confirming the same, Olivia, on Twitter, shared a spider icon while retweeting a report on the development. Workwise, Olivia's next directorial is the psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling featuring Florence Pugh, Shia LaBeouf and Chris Pine.

Sony's upcoming Spider-verse films include Morbius, Silver Sable, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Madame Web, Black Cat among many others.
