‘Dune’ trailer: Timothée Chalamet becomes the unlikely messiah in Denis Villeneuve’s star-studded sci-fi franchise

Warner Bros. has dropped the first trailer for a new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel Dune. The Dune trailer introduces the desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune, which has become the centre for a galactic power struggle for the most coveted substance in the universe. ‘the spice’, necessary for both space travel and immortality.

Timothée Chalamet plays Paul Atreides, a royal teenager who becomes a messiah for the planet’s people, known as Fremen. He is helped in his endeavour by the woman in his visions, Chani (Zendaya) who also plays his love interest. He is helped in his quest by his mentors Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) and Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa), who serve as the weapon master and swordmaster for House Atriedes, respectively.

Dune has a stellar star cast that includes Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Issac, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem. Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve. He is also the producer with Cale Boyter, Joe Caracciolo Jr., and Mary Parent. Dune is a production of Legendary Pictures (which holds the rights to the Dune books), and Villeneuve Films. Warner Bros. Pictures is the global distributor. Dune is currently slated to release December 18 in cinemas worldwide.
