The stars that play the roles of Marvel Cinematic Universe superheroes are generally regarded in high esteem by the audience. However, in an extremely unfortunate turn of events Chris Pratt who essays the role of Peter Quill aka Star Lord has been facing a significant amount of backlash for his alleged political affiliation. Netizens have descended ferociously on Chris for as they have not only called him an alleged Donald Trump supporter but have also labelled him as ‘the worst Chris’ among the famous Chris quartet-the other being Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine.
It all came down as Chris did not sign himself up to attend an upcoming Joe Biden rally, where most of his fellow Avengers are scheduled to be present. However, Robert Downey Jr who plays the role of Iron Man stood up for Chris and shared words of support for him on his Instagram. Zoe Saldana, Mark Ruffalo, James Gunn also stood up for Chris against social media trolls.
Downey Jr. shared a picture of the two and wrote, “What a world... The “sinless” are casting stones at my #brother, Chris Pratt... A real #Christian who lives by #principle, has never demonstrated anything but #positivity and #gratitude... AND he just married into a family that makes space for civil discourse and (just plain fact) INSISTS on service as the highest value. If you take issue with Chris,,, I’ve got a novel idea. Delete your social media accounts, sit with your OWN defects of #character, work on THEM, then celebrate your humanness... @prattprattpratt I #gotyerbackbackback.”
James Gunn clarified Chris’ stand on LGBTQ and said, “Chris himself has openly stated the church he attends doesn’t reflect all of his personal views, and that he is a ‘man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want.’” Mark said that Chris is ‘just not overtly political as a rule’. Check out their tweets below:
You all, @prattprattpratt is as solid a man there is. I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life. He is just not overtly political as a rule. This is a distraction. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize, friends. We are so close now.

No matter how hard it gets, stick your chest out, keep your head up and handle it.

You got this @prattprattpratt . Your family, friends, colleagues & everyone who’s ever crossed paths with you knows your heart and your worth!— Zoe Saldana (@zoesaldana) October 21, 2020
Sorry. Just finding out about this nonsense. @prattprattpratt is the best dude in the world. I’ve spent hours & hours sharing my deepest truths with this man, as he has with me. Please stop assuming what he believes, politically or in any other way, because he’s a Christian. https://t.co/XSIgU9WemX
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) October 20, 2020
That’s exactly true. And many actors are nice only to people in power. What matters to me is how people treat the crew members, and wait staff, and fans. And Chris Pratt is always incredibly kind to these people, which is one of the reasons I love him. https://t.co/3UjuW5NTVv
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) October 20, 2020
No. So why are people assuming this and tweeting this? No clue. It’s weird. https://t.co/B4IJWb3Ams
— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) October 20, 2020
So do 98% of Christians, all Catholics, most Muslims & some Jews. I was a Catholic for years, hoping I could have a bigger impact working for gay rights from the inside. I eventually gave up. But it was a valid choice. & I applaud other non-bigots who do the same. https://t.co/9PRndmSaPS

Chris himself has openly stated the church he attends doesn’t reflect all of his personal views, and that he is a “man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want.”

Chris is often known not to be inclined towards politics and his decision to skip a rally where his fellow co-stars are present just goes to show the man’s neutral opinion and could be taken as his personal opinion. The rally was attended by Don Cheadle, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana- all of them supporting Vice-Presidential hopeful Kamala Harris for a virtual fundraiser called ‘Voters Assemble’.
As a huge Avengers and Black Panther fan, I could not be more excited for our grassroots fundraiser tomorrow with @doncheadle, @chrisevans, @markruffalo, @zoesaldana, the @Russo_Brothers, Scarlett Johansson, and Paul Rudd.

However, Twitterati had no chill and asked MCU to cancel Chris and also made allegations of him being homophobic and anti-LGBTQ. Check out some of their tweets below:
Chris Pratt because he’s MAGA. He’s the worst Chris. https://t.co/66JwzlthNH

Chris Pratt being canceled cuz he didn’t attend a Joe Biden fundraiser with the rest of the Avengers cast - and being labeled a white supremacist Trump supporter in the process - perfectly sums up the absolute mind rotting shitshow of current American politics.

Just learned Chris Pratt is a trump supporter, let’s end celebrities

I mean Chris Pratt supports Trump and is part of an anti-lgbtq+ Church. He's been cancelled for a long time yet it has no effect on his career. He doesn't only "think differently", his thoughts actively harm entire communities and its dangerous https://t.co/uPdCUex27y

Chris Pratt being a MAGA dummy really was not something I was mentally prepared for
— GWOT THOT (@GwotThot) October 18, 2020
On the other hand, another section of the online community extended their support to Chris as they believed he was being targeted for no apparent reason, considering the fact that there is no solid proof that he indeed is a Trump supporter.
Chris Pratt: *rarely does anything political and is just an all-around solid dude irl*

You can’t cancel @prattprattpratt - he’s too good and he’s loved by millions!
— Chris Loesch (@ChrisLoesch) October 19, 2020
There is no hardcore evidence that Chris Pratt is a Trump Supporter.
— BIDEN IS OUR ONLY HOPE! (@DetroitSteel_) October 19, 2020
where on earth did chris pratt say he’s a trump supporter
— (@neilthefurious) October 13, 2020
He hasn't. But he also hasn't appropriately signalled his political intentions for people with no lives, so they're attempting to shame him into obedience. lol
— Joseph Gupta (@Joseph_Gupta79) October 19, 2020
Perhaps he doesn't comment about his choice for president is because he wants to stay out of it? Hardly anything reason to call him a tRump supporter? Just look at the sh*t that comes a celebrity's way when they announce who their voting for.
— Jenny Bone (@eric_max_123) October 19, 2020
People of Twitter are really here out here claiming Chris Pratt is a Trump supporter who zero evidence making this claim.
Twitter is dumb as shit and will believe anything. I hate most of you. pic.twitter.com/Jofc7dNCPk
— Quint Dunaway (@QuintDunaway) October 19, 2020
Listen, I have no idea whether or not Chris Pratt is a Republican or not. But is his political ambiguity so much for you that you have to bash him online and try to cancel him?...
Probably not. We shouldn’t jump to conclusions people.
— Issac the King (@IssacFl94852488) October 19, 2020
Chris Pratt being a Trump supporter is pure speculation and everyone decides to vigorously shit on him?? like how is that okay to you??? pic.twitter.com/MzyQfcaNUv
— Zion Thomas (@Zion30784113) October 19, 2020
Chris Pratt doesn't advertise his political affiliation,
doesn't insult consumers,
BUT didn't attend a Biden rally so he needs to be cancelled.Meanwhile, most of Hollywood decides to talk down to us plebs about politics and you're good with that.
Says PLENTY tbh. https://t.co/Lu35rSlmBT
— ThatUmbrellaGuy (@ThatUmbrella) October 19, 2020
However, the point is that this Cancel Culture might end up doing more harm than good in the long run and it remains to be seen whether Chris can emerge from this barrage unscathed.
