Dear Evan Hansen trailer: Ben Platt reprises his role from the Broadway musical going back to high school to dismiss a lie

Universal has released the first trailer for their upcoming film Dear Evan Hansen. The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical is finally coming to the big screen under the directorship of Stephen Chbosky. Ben Platt reprises his role from the original musical created by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Dear Evan Hansen follows Evan Hansen (Platt) as an anxious and isolated high school student who writes letters to himself. Evan’s classmate Connor Murphy gets a hold of one of his letters and dies by suicide with the note in his pocket, leading Connor’s parents to believe it was a suicide note addressed to Evan. This ultimately becomes a complicated lie for Evan as he is forced to pretend to be Connor’s friend and fabricates a relationship with the Murphy family.
