Britney Spears' father Jamie Spears willing to step down as conservator 'when the time is right'

Britney Spears has been fighting to free herself from her father James a.k.a Jamie Spears' conservatorship. For the last 13 years, the pop singer's father has controlled her life and money. Now, months after being pressurised by Britney supporters, Jamie, on Thursday, signalled in a legal response that he has decided to step down as the conservator.

According to an international news portal, Jamie, in documents stated that while there are no grounds for his removal, he will step down after several lingering issues are resolved. "There are, in fact, no actual grounds for suspending or removing Mr. Spears as the Conservator of the Estate. It is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears' best interests," the document stated.

"Nevertheless, even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests. So even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter's new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator," the document further read.

Jamie will step down as the conservator when the time is right, the document stated. "Mr. Spears continues to serve dutifully, and he should not be suspended or removed, and certainly not based on false allegations. Mr Spears is willing to step down when the time is right, but the transition needs to be orderly and include a resolution of matters pending before the court," it read.

Britney's lawyer Mathew Rosengart, told another publication that the filing was "a major victory for Britney Spears and another step toward justice." He further urged Jamie to "step aside immediately."

Rosengart shared, "We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter’s estate, and I look forward to taking Mr Spears’ sworn deposition in the near future."
