Pixar has dropped the first teaser trailer of Toy Story prequel Lightyear. The film sees Chris Evans voice the iconic character of Buzz Lightyear. The film is described as “the sci-fi action-adventure presents the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear—the hero who inspired the toy—introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans.” The animated film is directed by Angus McLane.
The first glimpse shows Buzz Lightyear rocketing off towards the sun and beyond, while showing his time in a space port and facing a tentacle monster as well as a robotic cat. The clip has David Bowie’s Starman soundtrack and gives Buzz’s iconic catchphrase, “To infinity, and beyond.’

Animated movie were an enormous part of my childhood. They were my escape. My adventures. My dreams.
They were my first window into the magic of storytelling and performing.

Evans takes over the beloved character’s role from Tim Allen who voiced the animated hero in all his previous film outings. Sharing the teaser trailer on social media, Evans wrote, “I’m covered in goosebumps. And will be every time I watch this trailer. Or hear a Bowie song. Or have any thought whatsoever between now and July cause nothing has ever made me feel more joy and gratitude than knowing I’m a part of this and it’s basically always on my mind.” He later corrected himself and said, “June! Even better!” for the film’s release date.
Lightyear is set to fly into cinemas on June 17, 2022.
