Spirited teaser: Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell bring Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ with musical and comedic twists

Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell have teamed up for the Christmas special film Spirited, the teaser of which has been dropped online. Co-writer and director Sean Anders’ Spirited presents the timeless holiday favourite, A Christmas Carol but this time with a modern and unforgettable twist. The film also stars Octavia Spencer and is musical comedy.

Spirited sees Reynolds play Clint Briggs, a Scrooge-like character visited on Christmas Eve by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. On the other hand, Ferrell plays the Ghost of Christmas Present who gets a shock when the tables are turned on him by Briggs, with the ghostly host taking a look and reexamining his own past, present and future. The teaser brings a colourful, comedic and musical takes on Charles Dickens classic but from the viewpoint of the ghosts.

The trailer kicks off with an animated tap sequence by the lead actors which eventually comes to life as a dance-off between Reynolds and Ferrell. At the end of the dance-off both admit that their perfectly choreographed effort wasn’t planned and Ferrell’s ghost asks Reynolds’ Briggs, “How did you know all that?” to this the latter replies, “I didn’t know I was just following you!”

Spirited is co-written by Anders and John Morris and also stars Sunita Mani, Patrick Page, Joe Tippett, Marlow Barkley and Jen Tullock. The reimagined holiday classic also features original songs by Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul with choreography by Chloe Arnold. Spirited releases in theaters on November 11 and on Apple TV+ November 18.
