Matthew Perry made a lot of revelations in his upcoming memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing but has received a lot of flak from fans for his distasteful question as to why “Keanu Reeves still walks among us” while “talented” actors and “original thinkers” like Heath Ledger, Chris Farley and River Phoenix are no more. After the tremendous backlash received online, Perry has apologized for his remarks.
Reportedly, the FRIENDS star who gained fame playing Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom wrote in his memoir, “The list of geniuses who were ahead of their time is too long to detail here — suffice to say, near the top of any such list should be my costar in A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon, River Phoenix.” He continued, “River was a beautiful man, inside and out — too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”
Talking about the death of Chris Farley, Perry wrote that he “punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall” when he found about it. He wrote, “I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out. Keanu Reeves walks among us. I had to promote Almost Heroes two weeks after he died; I found myself publicly discussing his death from drugs and alcohol. I was high the entire time.”
In a statement shared to media outlets, Perry said, “I’m actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.”
Netizens did not like Perry’s statements about Reeves who is revered for his down-to-earth attitude, philanthropic and charitable ventures and kindness and they ripped the former apart. Sample some tweets below:

Because POS Matthew Perry disrespected Keanu Reeves for no reason, here’s a thread about a regular dude who likes to train BJJ and seeks continued self improvement.
Posted from Entering Manhood:
Keanu was abandoned by his father at 3 and grew up with 3 different stepfathers. 1/ pic.twitter.com/lHI8KekA0m

Quite a contrast. Perry grew up in the nicest Ottawa neighborhood with ambassador/government ministers children and went to private school. And turned out...like he turned out!

In a world full of Matthew Perry’s… be a Keanu Reeves.

Matthew Perry dumping on Keanu Reeves is a joke. Keanu has had his series of personal tragedies (death of fiancé, unborn child, sister dying of cancer, etc.) yet he rises above it to be a kind and generous human being.
And then there’s Matthew Perry who’s a self-indulgent tool

Matthew Perry - spends $9 million on his own sobriety, whines about it in a book.
Keanu Reeves - spends untold millions on secret foundation that funds paediatric health care, tells nobody.— kingy (@AnImminentKing) October 26, 2022
Keanu Reeves is widely regarded as a national treasure because of his kindness, empathy, and talent, whereas Matthew Perry is known for his pill addiction and playing the unfunniest character on a show full of unfunny characters.
