Produce 101 Season 2 contestant Lee Ji-han passes away in South Korea's Seoul's tragic Halloween stampede

On Saturday, the Halloween celebration in South Korea's Seoul turned into a tragedy. Reportedly, around 151 people were killed and over 100 were injured in a stampede at a prominent market in the capital Seoul, where a massive crowd had gathered for the celebration. This year's Halloween was the first since the pandemic started in 2020 in which South Koreans have not been mandated to wear face masks outdoors. 

In the tragic incident, Produce 101 Season 2 contestant Lee Ji-han lost his life. He was 24 years old. The news of Lee Ji-han's demise was confirmed by his agency. In a statement, his agency wrote, "Actor Lee Jihan, a precious family member of 935 Entertainment and 9 Ato Entertainment, has become a star in the sky and left us. We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to his family, who are in deep grief due to the sudden demise of the actor."

Lee Ji-han, who was a former contestant in the Korean singing competition Produce 101, made his television debut with Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day

Following the tragedy, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol declared a period of national mourning.
