The stars came out, as expected, to attend the special screening of Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar. There was Aamir himself in a white tee and denims, with Kiran in a floaty creation teamed with sneakers. Anil Kapoor looked dapper in a grey shirt and denims, while Sachin Tendulkar, Rajkummar Rao and Nawazuddin Siddiqui too chose smart casuals as their style theme. Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar were the exception in exotic drapes, complementing each other in shades of white. Zaira Wasim, the young star of the film, and Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, who played Aamir’s daughters in Dangal, were there too.
Aamir had also hosted a special screening for hosted a special screening of the film for senior BJP leader LK Advani and his daughter in Delhi. Word goes that Advani, who is quite the fan of entertaining, meaningful cinema, was deeply moved by the film and even spent time discussing it with the Zaira Wasim, who plays Insu, the secret superstar. The film expectedly received a standing ovation.
This Advait Chandan directorial sees Aamir play music composer Shakti Kumar, who mentors Insia, a teenager who aspires to be a singer. He helps her navigate her way through life and its problems. The main obstacle in her path to fulfilling her dream is her father. This leads a burqa-clad, face-veiled Insu to turn to YouTube in a bid to be heard. She is scouted by Shakti Kumar, who is impressed by her musical gift. Yes, we are keeping our box of tissues at hand for the screening – this is bound to be tears-of-joy territory!
Aamir Khan had earlier spoken about the need for creative people to make more films for children, and for teenagers. That’s a great thought but the Secret Superstar lead actress herself might not watch them. Zaira has revealed that she was never inclined towards acting, and that she is still the kind of a person who doesn't watch films. “I cannot sit through a whole film. The last film I saw was Dangal. In fact, I've not seen much AK (Aamir Khan) films. I don't think I've seen any of it.”
If we loved her play the young Geeta Phogat in Dangal, we love her more already!
