PeepingMoon 2019: From Deepika Padukone’s ‘Chhapaak’ to Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi and Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, films to look forward to in 2020!

The year 2019 was dominated by films like Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh, Hrithik Roshan's and Tiger Shroff’s War, Vicky Kaushal's Uri: The Surgical Strike, Salman Khan's Bharat and some small budget films like Article 15, Badla and Bala. However, there were also films that failed to impress the audience and the cine-goers were disappointed to return from the theatres. As 2019 comes to an end, the new year 2020 promises to deliver some exciting Bollywood projects, in terms of cast and storyline.

So hoping for the best, here’s a list of films you should totally look forward to watching from January 1:

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior

The film, which is about the battle of Sinhagad in 1670 that was fought between Tanhaji Malusare and Udaybhan Singh Rathod, will release in 3D. It marks the reunion of Kajol and husband Ajay Devgn after 2010. Apart from that, the film stars Saif Ali Khan as the antagonist. The much-awaited period drama will hit the screens on January 10, 2020.

Chhapaak

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar's next offering Chhapaak, starring Deepika Padukone, is set to hit theatres on January 10, 2020. The film will narrate the story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Co-starring Vikrant Massey, the trailer of the film has been well received and hats off to Deepika for giving up everything that she is known for — the way she looks, the glamour, opulence to be with just her craft.

Street Dancer 3D

Dancing its way to theatres on January 24, 2020, will be director Remo D'sSouza's Street Dancer 3D with actor Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Nora Fatehi. What’s more? The trailer and songs have already become a rage amongst the audience.

Panga

Filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's Panga in which Kangana Ranaut plays a kabaddi player is also set to release on January 24. It has managed to generate the right amount of curiosity among fans with its simple and sweet posters and trailer with a strong message. Kangana is undoubtedly the heart and soul of the film and we cannot wait for this one.

Jawaani Jaaneman

The following week will have Saif Ali Khan-Tabu starrer Jawaani Jaaneman releasing on January 31. The rom-com will mark the debut of Alaia F., daughter of Pooja Bedi, with Saif playing an ‘accidental father’. The film is directed by Nitin Kakkar of Filmistaan fame. The teaser that featured Saif, gave a glimpse into what a quirky and hilarious ride Jawaani Jaaneman will be.

Malang

Filmmaker Mohit Suri's Malang, starring Anil Kapoor, Disha Patani, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kunal Kemmu, will release on February 7. The film is one of the most anticipated ones and has been shot at the picturesque locations of Goa and Mauritius.

Aaj Kal

Valentine's Day is reserved for Imtiaz Ali's next which will bring together Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan on the big screen. A sequel to Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Love Aaj Kal, the film is being looked forward due to its fresh pairing.

Bhoot Part 1- The Haunted Ship

Vicky Kaushal will debut in the horror genre will Bhoot Part 1- The Haunted Ship on February 21. The film also stars Bhumi Pednekar. Bhoot... follows a couple on an abandoned ship lying static on a beach; it is based on a true incident that took place in Mumbai.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan

Ayushmann Khurrana's Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, a sequel to Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, is also scheduled to release on February 21. The film will reunite Badhaai Ho stars Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao with Ayushmann. Mainly shot in Varanasi, revolves around the issue of homosexuality.

Thappad

Taapsee Pannu will be seen in a woman-oriented film directed by Anubhav Sinha and titled Thappad. Dia Mirza is also playing a pivotal role in the film, which will release on February 28.

Baaghi 3

Tiger Shroff will return in his action avatar in Baaghi 3. The Ahmed Khan directorial will release on March 6 and reunites Tiger and Shraddha Kapoor. Add to this, Tiger is reportedly recreating a bit of Keanu Reeves' iconic action of the cult Hollywood hit, The Matrix, in his upcoming action flick.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

Janhvi Kapoor will be seen essaying the role of Indian Air Force combat pilot Gunjan Saxena in The Kargil Girl, which is set to release on March 13. The film also stars Angad Bedi and Pankaj Tripathi. In fact, Janhvi has totally impressed the audience with her first look as Gunjan.

Angrezi Medium

Angrezi Medium, slated to release on March 20, will bring Irrfan, who had been lying low for around a year after being diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour, back on the silver screen. It also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan as a cop while Radhika Madan plays Irrfan’s daughter in the flick, which is the sequel to the widely appreciated 2017 entertainer Hindi Medium.

Sooryavanshi

In the film, Akshay Kumar plays the title role of Sooryavanshi, a character that was introduced as an anti-terrorist squad officer in the Ranveer Singh-starrer Simmba last year. A part of filmmaker Rohit Shetty's Cop Universe, the film will see Akshay romancing Katrina Kaif and is slated to release on March 27.

‘83

Set for an April 10 release, ‘83 will see Ranveer Singh playing legendary cricketer Kapil Dev. The Kabir Khan directorial is about India's historic victory at the cricket World Cup of 1983. What’s more? Ranveer will yet again share screen space with wife Deepika Padukone in the film and the actor has already blown everyone's minds with his look as the ‘Haryana Hurricane’.

RoohiAfza

Hardik Mehta's horror-comedy film RoohiAfza set for April 17 release will have Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor as the lead actors. The unusual pairing is the USP of this much-awaited film.

Gulabo Sitabo

A Shoojit Sircar directorial with Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana fronting the cast, Gulabo Sitabo For the unversed, Gulabo Sitabo refers to a legendary pair of puppet sisters, part of Uttar Pradesh's folklore. The film is apparently a takeoff on these two characters.

Coolie No 1

May 1 will see David Dhawan bringing back Coolie No 1 in a new form with actors Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan. The film looks impressive and we cannot wait to see Varun and Sara share screen space for the first time.

Laxmmi Bomb

Akshay Kumar's Laxmmi Bomb, a remake of the super-hit Tamil horror-comedy Muni 2: Kanchana, will hit the theatres on May 22. The actor impressed everyone with his look as a transgender and it seems Akshay is all set to break the mould again.

Radhe

Salman Khan was earlier supposed to star in Inshallah but after the film shelved, the actor announced Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai directed by Prabhu Deva. The film also stars Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff. The motion poster of the film has certainly intrigued Bhai’s fans. It will release on May 22.

Thalaivi

June 26 will see actress Kangana Ranaut as late Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa in the AL Vijay's directorial venture. Kangana has certainly gone a huge transformation for the role. In fact, did you know Kangana gained six kilos and took mild doses of hormone pills to look like Jayalalithaa?

Shamshera

Ranbir Kapoor knows how to wow us every time. And now, with films like Shamshera to his kitty, the actor is all set to explore a new genre altogether. Fans have been waiting with bated breathe for the makers to drop in insight from the film. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and is expected to release on July 31.

Bhuj: Pride of India

Bhuj: The Pride Of India is being directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya and stars Ajay Devgn with Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Rana Daggubati, Ammy Virk and Pranitha Subhash in important roles. Touted to be mounted on a budget of Rs. 100 crores, the war drama is on the list of most awaited projects next year. Bhuj: The Pride Of India will release on Independence Day 2020.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

Alia Bhatt is all set to feature in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next release, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and the release date of the film has been scheduled as September 11, 2020. Other details related to the film are still under wraps. Earlier, Priyanka Chopra was touted to play the role but after Inshallah was shelved, Alia was finally announced for this one!

Sardar Udham Singh

Vicky Kaushal will bring alive the story of Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O' Dwyer, the former lieutenant governor of Punjab in pre-Independent India, in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919. Singh was subsequently tried and convicted of murder and hanged in July 1940. The film is slated to release on October 2.

Toofan

Farhan Akhtar has joined hands with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra after six years for Toofan, in which he will be seen playing a boxer. To fit into the shoes of the character, Farhan has undergone a major body transformation. It will release on October 2.

Prithviraj

November 13 will see the release of Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj, which will launch former Miss World Manushi Chhillar as an actress. The film also marks Akshay’s foray into the period film genre for the first time. The teaser poster of the film has made our wait even more difficult.

Maidaan

Ajay Devgn will be seen in Amit Ravindernath Sharma's Maidaan, which is based on the "golden years of Indian Football". Ajay essays the role of the legendary coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who is said to be the founding father of Indian football. The film releases on November 27.

Laal Singh Chaddha

After the Thugs of Hindostan debacle, Aamir Khan will return to the silver screen with Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of the Hollywood film Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks. The film will also see Kareena Kapoor Khan and will release on Christmas.

Bachchan Pandey

Kriti Sanon and Akshay Kumar will be seen together in the upcoming film Bachchan Pandey, which is slated to release on Christmas 2020. The film is said to be loosely inspired by Tamil film Veeram that released in 2014, starring Ajith Kumar and Tamannaah.

Sania Mirza Biopic

Earlier in 2019, Tennis star Sania Mirza announced that a biopic on her will be made by Bollywood film-maker Ronnie Screwvala. While she had claimed that initial work on the film has begun, the details regarding the project aren’t out yet. Nonetheless, we wonder who will take on her role in the film.

Dostana 2

Karan Johar, soon after he announced the sequel of Dostana, the excitement level naturally shot up high. Starring Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya, Dostana 2 is all set to delve into yet another hilarious tale with hints of gay love. The film doesn't just mark the debut of director Collin D'Cunha but also of Lakshya. It is slated to release next year.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar

Ranveer Singh has teamed up with Yash Raj Films yet again for what the actor has called ‘a miracle script’ penned by debutant writer-director Divyang Thakkar and titled Jayeshbhai Jordaar. The film will see Ranveer in a humourous entertainer set in Gujarat and the superstar will be seen playing the role of a Gujarati man for the first time. Naturally, the anticipation for the film is immense and the actor will romance Shalini Pandey, who had mesmerized everyone with her infectious charm in Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy.

Brahmastra

Ayan Mukerji's upcoming mythological fantasy drama Brahmastra is amongst the highly awaited films of 2020. With real lovebirds Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt sharing the screen space for the first time, the buzz surrounding the project is naturally high. The project, the first in a trilogy, also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy. The release date of the film is yet to be announced.

Shakuntala Devi

Vidya Balan is all set to star in a film, which is based on the life of the late mathematics genius Shakuntala Devi. The actress impressed her followers with her first look as the math wizard and the film is slated to release on May 8. It also stars Sanya Malhotra as Shakuntala Devi's daughter Anupama and Amit Sadh in a pivotal role.
