Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, Darlings and Brahmastra – Alia Bhatt proves she is the queen of box office delivering one blockbuster hit after another

Alia Bhatt has time and again proved that she is a force to be reckoned with. Ever since she debuted on the big screen with her first film Student of the Year in 2012, there is no stopping her dominance. Alia has proved that she is one of the most talented and bankable actors of recent times with her films like Dear Zindagi, Highway, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, 2 States, Raazi, Udta Punjab, Gully Boy etc.

With her recent outings in Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, Darlings and recently released Brahmastra, Alia has become the most successful queen of the box office as all her films have become money-spinners at a time when most Bollywood films came crashing down.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

Alia played the titular role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film of a prostitute-turned brothel owner-turned politician-activist Gangubai Kathiawadi. The film released just after the pandemic and even though there were a lot of restrictions in place with regards to theatre viewing the film still minted money at the box office. It garnered around Rs 209.77 crore worldwide at the box office becoming the third highest grossing Hindi films of 2022. The actress walked away not only with accolades for her impeccable performance but also for headlining a female-led film and delivering a hit at the box office with her caliber. The film also starred Ajay Devgn, Seema Pahwa, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarbh and Shantanu Maheshwari in pivotal roles.

RRR

Alia was next seen in SS Rajamouli’s period-drama RRR where she was a part of an ensemble cast led by Ram Charan and Jr.NTR. The film also starred Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran in pivotal roles. Rajamouli’s film crossed barriers and emerged as one of the most successful films of the year as well as breaking several box office records. It became the third-highest-grossing Indian film garnering Rs 1,150-1,200 crore in worldwide collections.

Darlings

Alia turned producer with her maiden venture Darlings and acted in it too. The film also starred Shefali Shah, Roshan Mathew and Vijay Varma in lead roles. The film had an OTT release but received critical acclaim for its performances and storyline. The film received more than 10 million watch hours in its opening weekend, highest for any non-English original Indian film worldwide.

Brahmastra

Alia’s latest release Brahmastra in which she shares screen space with husband Ranbir Kapoor for the first time has lit up the box office proving it to be a messiah for Bollywood. The film directed by Ayan Mukerji was made on a whopping budget of Rs 410 crores but is going great guns currently at the box office. The film has already grossed Rs 248.98 crores worldwide within five days of its release and is looking to become one of the top grossing films of the year. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Mouni Roy and Dimple Kapadia. It is the first part of a trilogy directed by Ayan and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
