Thor: Love And Thunder is the latest release from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4. Headlined by Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman, the film is releasing in India today, which is a day before the US. While Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman as Thor and Mighty Thor are all love, the real thunder of this Taika Waititi directorial is the brilliant Christian Bale.
The story begins with the return of Thor, who spent time away from the Avengers, after Loki’s death. With the Guardians of the Galaxy, he travels through the galaxy to find a purpose in life. On the other hand, the God butcher, also known as Gorr, is determined on taking down Gods from different worlds. While avenging the death of his daughter, Thor, the God of Thunder, becomes one of his targets.
Gorr cleverly takes Asgardian children into his custody, forcing Thor to face him. Sensing the threat, Thor decides to create an army to fight Gorr. In the middle of this, Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) makes a surprising return in Thor’s life some time after they broke up. This time, as she unites with Thor to save the children, her battle isn’t only with Gorr but cancer too. Leaving Thor surprised, the Mighty Thor wields the Mjolnir despite knowing that it is affecting her health, physically.
Thor: Love And Thunder explores the God Of Thunder’s battle with the God butcher and his relationship with Jane while setting the foundation for the next film revolving around the MCU character. There is no doubt that Thor: Love And Thunder begins with a bang and is pacy enough to keep the audience hooked from the first frame. Though director Taika infuses wit into the story, some more of it would have caused no harm.
Carrying the film ably on their shoulders are Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman. Playing the character of Thor effortlessly, Chris will certainly mesmerize his audience with his on-screen charm. His underrated comic timing and infectious magic will leave you wanting for more. The true hero of Thor: Love And Thunder can easily be Natalie Portman who plays Lady Thor (Oops, sorry, Mighty Thor). Breaking free from the tag of Thor’s ‘ex-girlfriend’, she strikes the right balance between emotional portions and her comic timing.
If Chris and Natalie symbolize ‘love’ in the film, Christian personifies ‘thunder’. As the menacing Gorr, the actor transforms into a sinister being with sheer ease. Similar to what Elizabeth Olsen did in Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness, the MCU antagonist steals the limelight yet again.
After Thor: Ragnarok, the bar was set too high. While Thor: Love And Thunder has minimal dull moments, it cannot be ignored that the story could have been stronger and the film a little longer just to give the characters some extra space to deliver more.
