Jabariya Jodi has Bihar’s infamous ‘Pakadwa Vivah’ at its backdrop. The film starts with a flashback wherein we see two 10-12-year-old kids. One is Sidharth Malhotra in his character of Abhay Singh and the other is Parineeti Chopra playing Babli Yadav. Apparently, the two kids fall in love but their love story does not come to fruition as their parents come to know and Parineeti’s family shifts to Patna.
The film moves on to the present day where Sidharth has matured into the ring leader of ‘Pakadva Vivah’ where he kidnaps greedy grooms and get them forcibly married without any hopes of laying their hands on a fat dowry. Jaaved Jaaferi plays Sidharth’s father in the film whereas Sanjay Mishra plays the role of Parineeti’s father. Sidharth’s claim to fame is getting grooms married to their fiancées without their will and without any dowry demands and in this scenario, he once again comes face-to-face with his childhood sweetheart Parineeti. The actress plays a bold girl who decides to elope with her boyfriend but when he ditches her at the last moment she gets him beaten up for the betrayal.
Parineeti and Sidharth end up getting hitched in true ‘jabariya’ fashion but here is where director Prashant Singh comes up with his trump card. Prashant along with screenwriter Sanjeev K Jha has presented a very entertaining story that keeps the audience’s attention intact. The dialogues of the film are extremely funny and witty and with Jaaferi and Mishra cracking jokes in their deadpan poker-faced style Jabriya Jodi becomes a highly entertaining and rib-tickling watch.
The stellar supporting cast of the film has done a tremendous job. Sheeba Chadha as Parineeti’s mother, Mishra as her father, Aparshakti Khurana as her best friend and Jaaferi as Sidharth’s father steals the show. The chemistry between Parineeti and Sidharth is crackling. The two ace the accents and they will definitely impress you with their acting prowess. Ruslaan Mumtaz, Arshi Lamba and Neeraj Sood also play pivotal roles in the film. Sharad Kapoor is the surprise element in the film. The actor who was missing from the big screen for some time makes a comeback in Jabariya Jodi with a bang. He plays the antagonist in the film.
The songs of Jabariya Jodi like Khadke Glassy, Zila Hilela, Dhundhe Ankhiyaan have already topped the charts and come at the right junctures in the film. The songs do not hinder the tempo of the film but instead helps to further the story. The film’s second half is a tad shaky as it becomes a little long and boring. However, it is a feel-good film that tries to impart a valuable lesson that the use of force should not be employed in marriages or in the matters of the heart.
