For friends, a trip to Goa is a highlight. How many times did you make plans with your buddies to visit the scenic tourist location but end up cancelling them due to interruptions? Often, right? But what happens when the Goa trip works up and you land in an unwanted situation? Madgaon Express tells the story of one such fictional circumstance.

In Kunal Kemmu's directorial debut, three childhood friends Dodo (Divyenndu), Pratik (Pratik Gandhi) and Ayush (Avinash Tiwary) dream of visiting Goa in their college days. However, due to parental interference, they're unable to make it. Years later, Pratik and Ayush have settled abroad and are leading luxurious lives. On the contrary, Dodo is struggling to make ends meet and is envious of his friends. Their epic reunion is scheduled to take place in Goa. While the trip is materialising, the trio has no clue of what's in store for them on Madgaon Express, the train that connects Mumbai and Goa.

Madgaon Express is Kunal Kemmu's baby, and his efforts to make it memorable are visible. Right from scripting the story to penning the dialogues, he has paid meticulous attention to every minute detail. The motto to provide nothing but pure entertainment does the magic. Madgaon Express is a well-intentioned dramedy that speaks to you through each frame. Kunal ensures the characters live in the moment and so does the viewer. Dodo, Pratik and Ayush might be flawed but relatable. Balancing each character's layers without stealing anyone's limelight, Kunal presents one of the most unexpected laugh riots that shall stay back in the minds for the longest time. Without trying too hard, the humour resonates and leaves you with a tender, fuzzy feeling.

Humour is a tricky subject. It can either get vulgar or fall flat. Madgaon Express lands correctly and this is a major win. After a long time, a film avoids objectification of female characters. Yes, Nora Fatehi's character has been introduced to add the extra oomph factor but it never slips to an awkward low. Kunal creates humorous situations using meta references. At first, Madgaon Express appears to be the love child of Dil Chahta Hai and Go Goa Gone, but it surprises you with twists, turns and suspense.

The film has a busy screenplay. There's constant movement and chaos that holds attention. Drugs, drama, dosti, love, action, mystery and the list continues. Name an emotion and it's present in the film without breaking the flow. The writing is smart, sharp, crisp and politically aware. The punches land correctly, the sentiment of friendship is cozy and warm and drama is never boring despite being slightly over-the-top.

What doesn't work in Madgaon Express is Nora Fatehi's character, Tasha. The actress looks great, and does better than what she's been doing over the years, but it doesn't contribute much to the story. Probably, a sequel is in the making and her character can be better explored. Remo D'Souza is a surprise package. Kunal uses the choreographer-director in the best way. He also takes the narrative forward in an interesting way.

Divyenndu owns Madgaon Express as Dodo. He might not be the best person around, but his vulnerabilities, FOMO, innocence and swag connect instantly. Being someone who experiences foot-in-the-mouth situations frequently, every individual can see themselves in Dodo in many ways. Divyenndu slips into the character effortlessly and touches the heart and soul with an incredible performance. Switching personalities instantly, Madgaon Express shows what Divyenndu is capable of pulling off and how underutilised he has been all these years. It is a celebration of his talent.

Pratik Gandhi is a magician. There are various shades to his character, also named Pratik, a Gujarati man who is highly sensitive. It isn't an easy task to bring about vulnerability to such an extent, be goofy, elite and borderline annoying (intentionally). A twist in the tale allows Pratik to balance two diverse personalities. One, being a crybaby who depends on his parents for every minute thing. The other presents a bold, unfiltered and carefree person who is ready to face the odds singlehandedly. Pratik surprises you every single minute with his flawless performance.

Avinash Tiwary is an underrated actor for many reasons. Madgaon Express will help him claim his spot in the top 5 new-gen actors. Apart from looking deliciously hot flaunting those abs, the actor adds gravitas to Ayush's character with his charming presence and flawless acting prowess. He's that one friend who uses his intelligence and calmness to get out of a tough situation. Avinash makes Ayush a memorable role and completes the puzzle of madness. Undoubtedly, he will make you fall in love!

Upendra Limaye is brilliant as Mendonza. His swag, style, ruthlessness and comic timing are simply perfect. Chhaya Kadam as Kanchan Kombdi is hilarious, menacing and a pure joy to watch. Remo is fantastic in a brief yet important role. Nora has a substantial amount of acting to do but she's strictly average. Kunal, Pratik, Divyenndu and Avinash provide the happiest 2 and a half hours of your life. This one hits the jackpot!
