Visfot movie review: A suspense-laden crime thriller falls short with uneven execution

Film : Visfot
Cast : Fardeen Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Krystal D’Souza, Priya Bapat, Sheeba Chadda, Sima Biswas
Director: Kookie Gulati
Rating : 2.5 Moon

Amidst the wave of captivating cinegoers, another addition to the genre is Visfot, directed by Kookie Gulati and featuring Fardeen Khan and Riteish Deshmukh in titular roles with Krystle D’Souza and Priya Bapat in supporting roles. The film released on Jio Cinema is said to be an official remake of the Venezuelan film, Rock, Paper, Scissors. Visfot taps into different themes of betrayal, corruption, and survival centered near two families involved in a mess created by a third party.

The story primarily revolves around two leading characters Shoeb (Fardeen Khan) hailing from Mumbai slum cramped with life and Akash (Riteish Deshmukh) a rich high-rise pilot. Fatefully both intersect one day due to a series of events that fall into their life. Innocent Shoeb unfortunately gets entangled with the goons while on the other hand, Aksah discovers his wife’s betrayal and gets into a whirlwind of tragedy when his son goes missing. Later, finds the young boy is kidnapped by Fardeen’s character. What starts as a personal tragedy soon escalates into a dangerous scenario. Shoeb who is wrongly accused of a crime must not clear his name but also fight to protect his family.

Visfot has the right tone for a suspense-filled narrative that keeps you fastened until the end. The unfolding suspense ensures that the audience remains on the edge of their seat, making the surprise finale even more impactful. However, the gripping narrative somewhere felt pulled, rather adding a scene at the end would have given a detailed conclusion. The makers could have tightened the story holding it short and more intriguing. It fails to hold its grip in some scenes adding loose breaks and weak angles in the story.

Riteish Deshmukh has added his acting magic giving the right intense expressions to the gripping narrative. Fardeen Khan gave a brilliant performance but for a comeback he deserves better roles. Priya Bapat has fewer scenes but gave it a flat response, however, Krystal D’Souza did a decent job. Seema Biswas and Sheeba Chaddha have done justice to their characters. Skipping the modern audience who is very selective with content director Kookie Gulati offered a little outdated plot but the leading actors keep you engaged.

Overall, Visfot is a good one-time-watch movie. In this phase, skipping a theatrical release was a wise decision as OTT is the suited platform for the film. The crime thriller flick is now streaming on Jio Cinema.
