Jigra movie review: Alia Bhatt unleashes her inner superhero in this thrilling sisterly showdown

Film: Jigra

Cast: Alia Bhatt, Vedang Raina, Manoj Pahwa

Director: Vasan Bala

Rating: 4 Moons

Imagine a setting where your sibling is wrongly implicated and detained in a foreign land with no release in sight so Alia Bhatt courageously breaks the laws of Hanshi Dao Island to rescue him. Jigra is an emotionally-packed action thriller showcasing a pure brother-sister relationship featuring Alia as the fearless, young, empowered woman and Vedang Raina as her vulnerable younger brother. The film is true to its message of a sister’s unending promise to protect her brother. Alia is a strong-witted, real-life superhero to her brother.

Jigra revolves around gutsy Satya (Alia Bhatt) who has overcome a challenging childhood as an orphan brought up by relatives. Her brother Ankur (Vedang Raina) moves to Hanshi Dao where he is entangled in a drug scam and sentenced to death. The lioness in Satya goes extreme to save her only family member. In her fight for justice she goes against the world and is joined by Bhatia (Manoj Pahwa) and Muttu (Rahul Ravindran) who have children incarcerated alongside Ankur. Where country laws are harsh, how Satya saves her brother by breaking into prison is worth the watch.

Alia’s performance is commendable and Jigra speaks volumes about her as an actor. This girl is breaking every norm and enrolling for more layered characters. Satya is fierce, intense blazing guns, and unafraid of the world in her mission to protect her brother. Vedang, making his theatrical debut, delivers a standard performance. Manoj Pahwa and Rahul Ravindran do justice to their parts and are rightly added characters in the plot.

The emotional yet gripping narrative makes it an edge of the-seat thriller and leaves no space to lose interest. Vasan Balaa has done a fabulous job with a strong story. The film offers an amazing visual experience. Additionally, every scene is meaningful and contributes to the overall narrative and builds anticipation for what’s to come. The background score keeps you hooked and complements every scene. Overall, Jigra is Alia’s show and a testament to her sensational, mature acting prowess.
