Story
In true Bollywood tradition, Dev Ambre (Shahid Kapoor who plays a gritty cop of the Mumbai Police), can dance, fight, rub politcians' noses in the dirt, kill baddies at will and get away with it. 'Deva' has him assigned to a high-profile case. The film begins with an accident, and then Shahid Kapoor's amazing dance number makes the audience feel his strong entry. The story may seem a little ordinary in the beginning, but as it progresses, many unexpected twists come to the fore. 'Deva' is about the search for a big criminal, and then the assassin of a police officer. Although everything seems a little simple in the beginning, it completely grips you in the later part of the film.
Acting
Shahid Kapoor's performance is the main highlight. He has given a lot of depth and credibility to his character. Every scene of his, be it action or emotional, is impressive. He strengthens the film with his acting. Pavail Gulati, Kubbra Sait, Parvesh Rana and Pooja Hegde have also played their respective roles well, which brings more freshness to the film.
Direction
Roshan Andrewss' direction makes the film thrilling and full of suspense. He has kept the pace fast and has tried his best to maintain tension throughout. Although some scenes in the first half dragged, as the film progresses, the director makes it more interesting by adding twists and turns in the story. Roshan has let the suspense and action emerge at the right time, which keeps the audience glued to their seats.
Dialogues
The dialogues are very impressive, especially in the scenes that involve Shahid Kapoor's character. The police-underworld scenes are depicted very accurately through the dialogues. You will laugh so many times.
Music
The music is another important aspect. Especially the song 'Bhasad Macha' that rocks. Even 'Marji Cha Maalik' brings energy and excitement into the film. The other music tracks also support the mood of the film and make the audience feel the intensity in every turn.
Overall
'Deva' is a brilliant thriller-mystery film with an excellent performance by Shahid Kapoor. The pace of the film is fast and there are some unexpected twists which keep the audience engaged till the end. However, some action scenes seem lacking and some scenes in the first half drag. But despite these minor flaws, the film proves to be a great thriller. If you are a fan of suspense, thrill and action, then definitely watch 'Deva'.
