At the Basu house, exactly opposite to Prerna is Anurag Basu who is a firm believer of punctuality and leads a disciplined and moralistic life. Prerna, on the other hand, is a typical filmy cherry and chirpy girl who is the apple of her parents' eye. Mrs. Sharma who is a gift supplier receives a lot of support from Prerna in her small business.

Prerna and Anurag post their respective Aartis leave for the same college. Girls go gaga over a simple glimpse of Anurag while Prerna is least interested in him as she finds him boring. The two have known each other for 10 years as their fathers have been good friends. Prerna and Anurag meet at college and their conversation is quite predicted by their friends.

The girls befriend Prerna just to get closer to Anurag through her. Further, Mohini Basu who is Anurag's mother is a big shot of the society and is equally snooty and proudy. She believes in class over mass and exactly opposite to her is her husband Malay Basu who is a fun loving person at heart. Malay and Rajesh Sharma have been working together as Rajesh is Malay's account manager and more like a family to him.

Prerna helps her mother put up a stall at a Durga Pooja pandal that is organized by Mohini Basu. Mohini is seen flaunting her status when Prerna bumps into her. She isn't able to recollect her name a few that makes Veena Sharma angry. Prerna asks her mother to not stress over the same and ignores it.

While the Basu's are performing the Pooja of Durga Ma, the Sharma's aren't allowed to enter the VIP zone. Malay sees this and asks Anurag to help them out and get them near the Durga Ma Idol. Mohini gets annoyed as the Sharma's belong to a typical middle-class family. After Mohini and Malay, Malay asks Prerna to perform the Aarti annoying Mohini. She asks Anurag to go ahead and take the Aarti from her but coincidentally both Anurag and Prerna perform the Aarti together.

Later, Prerna's friends ask her to ask Anurag whether he is gay. She asks him awkwardly and he lies to her saying that he is gay. He plays a prank on her. Prerna later apologizes for asking a personal question. Anurag asks her to relax. Mohini pays no heed to Mrs. Sharma's conversation and that embarrasses her.

A young boy asks the priest about Mahishasura and the priest tells him the story of how Durga demolished the evil. A car is shown parked behind the pandal wherein a man who is drunk gets out of the car and lights a cigarette. He throws the burnt matchstick and the pandal catches fire. Anurag and Prerna are trapped in a red dupatta that flies from the basket of a passerby worker.
