Mani Ratnam to resume the shoot of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's 'Ponniyin Selvan' in September?
The shoot of Mani Ratnam's much-anticipated period film Ponniyin Selvan was progressing at a brisk pace in Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. However, the novel coronavirus outbreak brought their work to halt after which a nationwide lockdown was imposed. Now according to media reports, Ponniyin Selvan will be the first big film in Tamil cinema to resume shoot post lockdown. The team is waiting for the government to lift the travel ban as they are planning to shoot major portions of the film in Pune and Hyderabad by the end of this year. Starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vikram in the lead, the film is planned to release in 2021.
A source close to the makers of the film said, "Mani Ratnam has decided to shoot portions involving actor Vikram in September. However, nothing as been finalised yet as the situation is still bleak." The team is currently discussing the possibilities of shooting the film with minimal crew, following safety precautions. An official announcement will be made soon.

Ponniyin Selvan is divided into two parts. The first will be releasing next year. The Mani directorial is a period drama revolving around the life of Arulmozhi Varman before he became the great Chola emperor. An adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's historical period based fictional novel of the same name, the film also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Sobhita Dhulipala, Karthi, Trisha among several others.
