As the new year has begun, fans of South films are excited to watch new films take over the theatres and draw back the audience after a major setback due to COVID-19. Shoots of films have started and filmmakers and actors are leaving no stone unturned to give their best. Here's what is happening in the South film industry:

Teaser of Chiranjeevi's Acharya to release on January 29

Fans of Chiranjeevi were waiting with a bated breath to catch a glimpse of his upcoming film, Acharya. Now, the wait is about to end. The makers of Acharya, this morning, announced that the teaser will release on January 29. 

A video announcement was made on social media. The video has text has read, "A prestigious project was conceptualized. Chiranjeevi garu was back at his best. Hurdles appeared in the form of pandemic. After a long wait, we could go back to shoot. Resilient people and restless schedules made it possible. You will soon see a glimpse of our love and hard work. Arriving soon to amaze you all."

Acharya is directed by Koratala Siva. It also stars Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal.

Pooja Hegde to play Ram Charan's love interest in Chiranjeevi's Acharya?

Chiranjeevi's Acharya is one of the most awaited films. Recently, it was announced that the mega star's son, Ram Charan, has joined the film to play an important role. Ram Charan will be seen as Siddha. Now, as the teaser of the Koratala Siva directorial is about to release, rumour has it that Pooja Hegde has been roped in opposite Ram Charan. 

According to a leading daily, Pooja has been approached for the role of Ram Charan's love interest. Sources told the daily that Pooja might step into the character that Sai Pallavi had turned down. Reportedly, she may play a village belle in Acharya. 

If Pooja signs Acharya, she will be reuniting with Ram Charan after Rangasthalam. She featured in the song Jigelu Rani. Apart from Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan, Acharya stars Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead. The film will release in theatres this year. 

Sai Pallavi and Naga Chaitanya’s Love Story to release in theatres on April 16

Sai Pallavi and Naga Chaitanya's upcoming film, Love Story, is a highly anticipated project. Now, the film has finally got a release date. The Sekhar Kammula directorial will hit cinema halls on April 16. The romantic drama will clash with Nani's Tuck Jagadish.

The producers of Love Story made the announcement on Twitter. "The world of #LoveStory in theatres on April 16th!" the tweet read. A new poster featuring the lead actors was also released. Love Story is about Revanth and Mounica. They relocate to Hyderabad from rural Telangana in search of job prospects. Chaitanya will be seen playing the role of Revanth, who runs a fitness centre. Sai Pallavi will essay the role of Mounica who is looking out for a software job in the city.

Love Story is produced by Narayan Das K Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under their banners Amigos Creations and Sree Venkateswara Cinemas. 

First look of Mohan Babu's Son of India to release on January 29

Veteran actor Mohan Babu will be seen in the upcoming film, Son of India. The project went on floors last year with the minimal crowd and under COVID-19 guidelines. The teaser poster of Son Of India grabbed attention and now, fans are eagerly waiting for the film's first look. 

Putting an end to the wait, the makers of Son Of India confirmed that the first look will be unveiled on January 29. "All set for #SonOfIndia First Look!! #SonOfIndiaFirstlook will be unveiled on 29th-January @ 10:00 AM," the production house tweeted.
