Attempts made to humiliate, silence and isolate me: Malayalam actress Bhavana Menon breaks silence on 2017 alleged assault case involving Dileep

On Sunday, the Crime Branch wing of Kerala Police registered a case against Malayalam actor Dileep and five others for allegedly threatening investigation officers in the sexual assault case of actress Bhavana Menon. After this development, Bhavana, for the first time in 5 years, broke her silence.

Addressing the humiliation that she went through in the last 5 years, Bhavana issued a statement on Instagram. She wrote, "This has not been an easy journey. The journey from being a victim to becoming a survivor. For 5 years now, my name and my identity have been suppressed under the weight of the assault inflicted on me. Though I am not the one who has committed the crime, there have been many attempts to humiliate, silence and isolate me. But at such times I have had some who stepped forward to keep my voice alive."

She added, "Now when I hear so many voices speak up for me I know that I am not alone in this fight for justice. To see justice prevail, to get wrongdoers punished and to ensure no one else goes through such an ordeal again, I shall continue this journey. For all those who are standing with me - a heartfelt thank you for your love."

As per media reports, the incident took place in Ernakulam in February 2017. Bhavana was travelling from Thrissur when a bunch of men abducted her and sexually assaulted her in a moving vehicle. A person named Pulsar Suni was arrested days after the incident. A few months later, Dileep was booked for allegedly being the mastermind and hiring Pulsar Suni to record a video of the assault. The former spent three months in jail. The trial in the case has been delayed for years.
