Don’t miss Rekha’s rendition of her Umrao Jaan classic song!

Love Rekha’s grace and warmth and drama and flair? Then there’s no missing the upcoming weekend episode of singing reality show, Rising Star. The veteran actress will be a guest judge on the show, alongside the regular judges actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh and singers Shankar Mahadevan and Monali Thakur.

But wait, there’s more… The redoubtable beauty will also perform her memorable song ‘Inn Aankhon Ki Masti’ from Umrao Jaan on the show. Buzz goes that the Rekha has already shot for a video that will feature her singing the verses of this ever-popular, poetic song from Muzaffar Ali's classic film.

Umrao Jaan, the story of a Lucknow courtesan and her rise to fame, had released in 1981. It had achieved legendary status for its stunning and evocative dance and music, in particular. With music by the very gifted Khayyam, the dances had been choreographed by legendary Kathak dance guru, Gopi Krishna, who had done the choreography for Mughal-E-Azam and Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje, and Kumudini Lakhia, a pioneer in contemporary Kathak dance.

Rekha, who had had no formal training in Kathak, had gone through intense training to master her dance sequences. She had shared, “In fact to be authentic in my dance movements… Muzaffar Ali had also invited many nawabs of the bygone era, who were acquainted with the mujras. These nawabs were exclusively called to closely monitor my Kathak steps and many a times they guided me and came up with valuable suggestions thus making my dance standout.”

Rekha’s stunning performance in Umrao Jaan had won her the Best Actress National award.
Coming up on ‘Rising Star’ will also be a special act which Rekha performs with the contestants in the live episode.

The diva says, “Music transcends all boundaries and I believe it sets you free. With ‘Rising Star’, the channel has given many of its contestants a platform to explore music and I am looking forward to seeing the budding talent in action.”

The actress’s special appearance on the show is bound to grab eyeballs. Her special appearance on Super Dancer, in December last year had created waves for her spontaneity and fun. We will be plonked in front of our telly this time again for sure!
