Ekta Kapoor is planning a biographical series on late politician Sanjay Gandhi, a leading daily reports, adding that she has approached Akshaye Khanna to play the titular role in it. The series, reported to be titled The Prince, will air on Ekta’s digital entertainment platform ALTBalaji.
"Ekta has deputed a team to research on the political heir, who was seen as the right-hand man of mother and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi,” a source was quoted as saying by the daily.
The series will apparently feature him as a “young political scion, with an anti-hero slant” as per the report while sources added that the sterilisation programme will appear in the plot line but whether the Emergency period will, has not been decided upon. The series is expected to begin filming in January 2020.
“The show will depict him as a young political scion, with an anti-hero slant. While his controversial initiatives - including the sterilisation programme - will find a place in the story, it is yet to be determined if the Emergency period will be the focal point. The final draft will be ready by August, with the project expected to roll by January 2020. The team has initiated a dialogue with Akshaye,” the source added.
However, Ekta Kapoor and Akshaye Khanna have not responded to the report so far.
Akshaye Khanna, star of films Border, Aa Ab Laut Chalen, Dil Chahta Hai, MOM and Ittefaq, was last seen in The Accidental Prime Minister.
