The Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, last co-directed Avengers: Endgame and the film took the world by a storm. Now the two, along with Wizards of The Coast and Hasbro’s Allspark Animation, have reportedly teamed up with Netflix for an animated series, based on the popular card game Magic: The Gathering. The announcement was made on Twitter and we cannot wait to see the fantasy game adapted to the screen for the first time in the franchise’s history.

Meanwhile, a press release from Netflix mentions that the show will “expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are Magic’s unique magic-wielding heroes and villains,” as quoted by a leading international news portal. The Russo brothers further said in a joint statement, “We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us."
According to Netflix, the show will have Henry Gilroy (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Jose Molina (The Tick) as showrunners. For the unversed, Magic: The Gathering was first introduced in 1993 and ever since then, it has inspired a digital game, esports league, comic book series, and a best-selling novel.
For now, Netflix has not announce a release date for the series.
