ALT Balaji, hours before the trailer release of the much-awaited web series The Verdict - State Vs Nanavati, made its teaser available on their Twitter account. The teaser of the show introduces its star cast to us, building curiosity to watch the trailer. The teaser features Viraf Patel, Saurabh Shukla, Elli AvrRam, Kubbra Sait, Pooja Gor, Soni Razdan, Swanand Kirkire, Angad Bedi and Manav Kaul in important roles. However not much about the show was revealed through the clip with a run time of 15 seconds.

The web series is based on Commander K. M. Nanavati vs. State of Maharashtra that took place in 1959. The case revolved around Commander Kawas Manekshaw Nanavati, a Naval Commander, who was tried for the murder of Prem Ahuja, his wife's lover. Commander Nanavati, accused under section 302, was initially declared not guilty by a jury, but the verdict was dismissed by the Bombay High Court and the case was retried as a bench trial. This was among the last cases to be heard as a jury trial in India, as the government abolished jury trials soon after in most cases except for Parsis who still have Jury Trials for their Matrimonial Disputes. Nanavati was finally pardoned by Vijayalakshmi Pandit, newly appointed Governor of Bombay and sister of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
