Alia Bhatt’s bestie, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, is making her acting debut. And just as in Alia’s case seven years ago in 2012, Akansha is being launched by Karan Johar in his first Netflix Original, Guilty. She will be cast alongside Kiara Advani who plays the lead role.
Akansha is the daughter of Indian Television Academy (ITA) founders Anu and Shashi Ranjan. The attractive 25-year-old has reportedly got a very strong and performance-oriented role in Guilty and will have equal prominence with Kiara. The film is being shot in Delhi and is expected to be wrapped up in September after its last schedule in Mumbai.
Guilty, which has been written by Kanika Dhillon (Manmarziyaan, Kedarnath, Judgementall Hai Kya) and is helmed by Ruchi Narain, explores the different versions of truth that emerge when a small-town girl accuses the college heartthrob of rape. Akansha is believed to be playing this girl while Kiara essays the character of the accused’s musician girlfriend. The story is seen through the eyes of Kiara’s character and raises the question of who’s truly guilty in such circumstances.

Akansha has been modeling for designers like Manish Malhotra, Neeta Lulla, and Vikram Phadnis and had recently featured in Ankit Tiwari’s single Tere Do Naina alongside Aparshakti Khurrana. She has a fashionista presence on social media and has done an acting diploma from Whistling Woods and one year course at the ITA School of Performing Arts. Although she was also seen in TLC’s fashion series Decoded which decodes the latest and most popular fashion trends, Guilty will be her first film project.
PeepingMoon.com has learned that Akansha did exceedingly well in her auditions and the makers of Guilty were happy to go with her. Incidentally, Akansha’s elder sister Anushka Ranjan made her Bollywood debut in the 2015 romcom Wedding Pullav produced by her parents and directed by Binod Pradhan. It was reportedly a rehash of the Hollywood and Bollywood films My Best Friend’s Wedding and Meri Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai respectively and failed at the box office.
