Netflix India has started the pre-production on the second season of its most acclaimed series, Delhi Crime. The whole cast and crew have reportedly been finalized and will go on floors in a month or two. The police-procedural thriller series which followed the aftermath of the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape in the first season has been planned as the two-season anthology with its next season exploring yet another high profile crime.
Peepingmoon.com has learnt that the Delhi Crime Season 2 will be based on the 2006 Noida Serial Murders - also known as Nithari Kand - which received much attention from the media due to the hideous nature of the killings. The show will apparently focus on the serial murders that took place in 2005-06 in Noida's Nithari where children and women disappeared and later their body parts were found in drain cutting in multiple pieces. Seventeen people were allegedly murdered in the stream of killings out of which 11 were girls.

Still from Delhi Crime Season 1
"The show will unravel the complexities of the case and follow the Delhi Police investigation into the encountering of the perpetrators behind this gruesome murders that took Indian media by storm in 2006 for its rarest of rare killing nature. Shefali Shah who played the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vartika Chaturvedi in the first season will reprise her role while Rajesh Tailang is also said to returning as Inspector Bhupendra Singh. The second season will have more or less the same principal cast with some new names also joining the team," a source said.
Indo-Canadian filmmaker Richie Mehta has apparently done thorough research on the case and has minute-by-minute detailed take on the investigation. The sources say the Nithari serial murder case will be told with sensitivity and responsibility just like the 2012 Delhi gang rape was narrated in the first season.
