Sharad Kelkar reacts to 'Laxmii' getting mixed response from the audience, says 'it's a big film and lots of effort has gone into it'

Ever since Akshay Kumar's comedy-horror was announced, the excitement among cine enthusiasts and fans of the actor shot high. The official Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster is directed by Raghava Lawrence who starred and helmed the original four-film franchise. The film also stars Kiara Advani as the female lead.Kanchana, Laxmii  The film released on November 9 on Dinsey + Hotstar and opened to mixed reviews and audience reaction. However, in just a day of its release, Laxmii became the biggest opening of Disney + Hotstar and received the highest viewership. 

Now, Sharad Kelkar, who played the role of a transgender Laxmii in the film, has talked to an entertainment website about the reaction and said that 'a lot of effort has gone into making the film'. He said, "It is a mixed review I think. It is big film, a lot of effort has gone into it. The kind of response the film is getting and Akshay sir is getting, I am very happy with it."

Talking about his wife's reaction, he said, “She watched the film and was crying and hugged me saying she is proud of me. I think that was it. That for me was the biggest compliment.”

In an earlier interview to a leading daily, Sharad had shared, “I have read a number of reactions and many people have been judgemental. But I have to say, it feels good to read comments from people who talk about your performance.”

Akshay Kumar had previously talked about the response for Laxmii and said, “I feel great. I know a lot of critics don’t like my films, and I understand it. But my focus is on my audience. I am told it’s the biggest opening of my career. The film achieves something pivotal. Having a transgender protagonist normalises and reinforces the rights of the LGBTQ community.”
