MX Original series Pati, Patni Aur Panga starring Naveen Kasturia and Adah Sharma in the lead has come under severe criticism on social media by many users who have dubbed the show as ‘transphobic’ and ‘tone-deaf’. The show has garnered heavy criticism for allegedly promoting transphobia and insensitivity towards the trans community.
Written and directed by Abir Sengupta, the 6-episode series revolves around Romanchak (Naveen) and his wife Shivani (Adah). The newly married couple’s lives come crashing down when Romachak discovers that his wife is a transwoman who was actually a man called Shiv till 8 months prior to their marriage. The trailer shows him initiating divorce proceedings against her whereas she feels she is not at fault for keeping her secret hidden from him. Pati, Patni Aur Panga trailer is being criticized for its ‘problematic perspective’ and showing the community and the situations in supposedly ‘hilarious’ ways.

A disgusting, harmful movie like Laxmi Bomb, gave way to more transphobic movies and shows
Now everyone wants to make something where the "twist" is that a certain character is trans
Or a trans character is the "horror" element
Fuck these people
Boycott #patipatniaurpanga

trans please know that you're so, so loved, beautiful and valid. I'm absolutely in awe of you. All non-cis people deserve to live in a world where they can live the way they want w/o fear. Absolutely screw Bollywood.(6/6)

You didn't, sorry. This movie is utterly transphobic and offensive, perpetrating stereotypes that are especially dangerous to trans folk of India. Your statement that a trans woman isn't a woman by saying you "play a man" in this movie perpetrates transphobia further.

This movie is Pati Patni aur Panga. The actress is Adah Sharma. Call them out.

For people who don't know about it, it shows a trans woman manipulating a cis man into marriage. The hilarity with which it shows her transformation and our stupid audience are laughing at this movie because they find it hilarious and applauding the actress for her “brave” role.

The series will stream from December 11, 2020 on MX Player.
