Kim Cattrall finally responds to her absence on Sex and the City reboot, albeit subtly

The news of the Sex and the City reboot at HBO Max broke the internet. However, the fans were left a little disappointed when it was revealed that Kim Cattrall who played Samantha will not be reprising her role to make the famous quartet with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon. This news was not exactly surprising as she had made it perfectly clear of not returning to her iconic role. However, she had kept mum on the reboot, until now.

Cattrall “liked” a January 11 tweet from a fan that reads, “I absolutely love Sex and the City and whilst I am saddened that Samantha will not return, I applaud doing what is best for you and think this is [a] great example of putting yourself first. Well done, @KimCattrall.”

This tweet echoes what Kim has been saying about returning to Sex and the City. She had said previously in an interview, “This isn’t about more money. This is not about more scenes. It’s not about any of those things. This is about a clear decision, an empowered decision in my life to end one chapter and start another. I’m 61. It’s now.”

There have been reports of a feud between Sarah and Kim but the former insists there is no bad blood between them. Recently she replied to her Instagram fans when they had suggested that she disliked Kim. She wrote, “No. I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would.” Then she spoke about the reboot and wrote, “Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do.”

It remains unclear how the reboot will portray Kim’s absence. Sarah was all keen to hear fan theories about Kim’s absence. When writer Taffy Brodesser-Akner tweeted, “Please respond below with your suggested plot line that explains Samantha’s absence,” the actor replied she has “pen and paper at ready. X.”
