Amazon Prime Video's Mirzapur series is one of the most popular shows. The second season of the series featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Ali Fazal, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Vijay Varma and others released on October 23, 2020. Now, as the show continues to be one of the most-watched on the OTT platform, it has landed in trouble once again. According to a leading daily, an FIR has been registered against the makers of the crime-thriller at the Kotwali Dehat police station of Mirzapur for allegedly, promoting social enmity, showcasing abusive content, presenting the district in a bad light and presenting illicit relations on screen.
The complainant named Arvind Chaturvedi has accused Mirzapur of hurting his religious sentiments. In the FIR, Arvind has named producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Bhaumik Gondaliya under IPC sections 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC along with sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
Confirming the FIR, SP of Mirzapur, Ajay Kumar, told the daily, "Arvind Chaturvedi alleged that the web series has showed abusive content and illicit relations. Thus, based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against producers and the platform." On the other hand, Mirzapur Dehat SHO Vijay Kumar stated that without listing out the examples, the complainant has alleged that the show has hurt his religious sentiments and showed Mirzapur city in a poor light.
