Zack Snyder shares drastically different first look of Jared Leto’s Joker from Snyder Cut Justice League

Zack Snyder has shared the first-look images of actor Jared Leto’s Joker from his Snyder Cut Justice League after teasing with a blurred image a couple of days earlier. Leto played the iconic Batman villain in Suicide Squad, with much of his performance edited out. Leto’s clown prince of crime was not part of Snyder’s original plan before walking away from the film in 2017 following fallout with Warner Bros. and grief over a family tragedy, but when HBO Max offered a chance for the Snyder Cut Justice League to release with his own cut, the director had a few things that he wanted to add to the much-awaited and hyped #Snydercut, and Batman’s arch-nemesis was one of them.

Snyder, in an interview, teased a meeting between Leto’s Joker and Ben Afleck’s Batman in his Justice League. He said in the interview, “The cool thing about the scene is that it’s Joker talking directly to Batman about Batman. It’s Joker analyzing Batman about who he is and what he is. That’s the thing I also felt like fans deserved from the DC Universe. That is to say, the Jared Leto Joker and the Ben Affleck Batman, they never really got together. It seemed uncool to me that we would make it all the way through this incarnation of Batman and Joker without seeing them come together.”

However, the filmmaker did not elaborate on why Leto’s Joker looks drastically different in the new pictures as compared to his tattooed appearance in Suicide Squad. He said, “I would say that there’s been some water under the bridge. Who knows what’s happened,” Snyder said. “I don’t know if he’s wearing makeup, I don’t know what’s happening. It’s hard to say exactly.”

Snyder Cut Justice League also stars Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher. It will debut in a four-hour event on HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
