Taylor Swift has accused Netflix’s show Ginny and Georgia of ‘degrading’ women for featuring a joke that she called ‘deeply sexist’. The singer tweeted a clip of the season finale of the comedy drama that carried the joke and criticized it for being ‘lazy, deeply sexist joke’. She rebuked the show for ‘degrading hard working women’ and while giving a shoutout to her documentary Miss Americana called out Netflix while wishing Happy Women’s History month.
In one scene of the show, the main characters Ginny Miller and her mother Georgia argue about relationships. Asked whether she had broken up with her boyfriend, Ginny said, "What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift." The line did not sit well with either the singer nor her fans as many called for a boycott of the series. Even Jameela Jamil gave a thumbs up to Taylor calling out the show and the OTT platform.
Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY. Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you Happy Women’s History Month I guess pic.twitter.com/2X0jEOXIWp

Neither Netflix nor anyone associated with Ginny and Georgia have commented on the criticism. In her tweet, Taylor referenced on her documentary Miss Americana that released on Netflix in January 2020 and took a jibe at the streaming giant that they are running a sexist joke during Women’s History Month. Taylor’s documentary revealed intimate details of her life, exploring how her relationships have been a fodder for memes and intense scrutiny by the public and press.
