Vicky Kaushal and Shoojit Sircar's Sardar Udham Singh to get an OTT premiere on Dussehra?

Vicky Kaushal is awaiting the release of his upcoming film Sardar Udham Singh. The actor, who was last seen in Bhoot: Part One: The Haunted Ship in 2020, will play the role of revolutionary freedom fighter Udham Singh. The film directed by Shoojit Sircar was scheduled to release in theatres. But latest reports suggest that Sardar Udham Singh will get a direct-to-web release next month.

According to an entertainment portal's report, Sardar Udham Singh is expected to release on Amazon Prime Video around Dussehra. A source told the portal, "Sardar Udham Singh will premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video during the Dussehra weekend. The tentative release date at the moment is October 16 and the team is supremely excited to present their film to the audience. It was meant for a theatrical viewing; however, an unprecedented situation has resulted in a direct to OTT premiere."

The source further added, "In fact, Shoojit and co. had sold Gulabo Sitabo to Amazon in the early days of pandemic only because they could hold on to Sardar Udham Singh for a theatrical release. It has been 15 months since then, and the virus is still hovering around the globe. The exhibition section too is far off from revival and given the kind of money involved in the film, the makers thought, it’s best to arrive in the digital world."

Sardar Udham Singh is based on Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O' Dwyer, former lieutenant governor of Punjab, in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919. Singh was tried and convicted of murder and hanged in July 1940.
