Makers of Suriya's Jai Bhim modify scene featuring communal symbol to ensure harmony

Suriya's Jai Bhim, released on Amazon Prime Video on November 2 2021, has left critics as well as the audience impressed. However, certain scenes shown in the film directed by TJ Gnanavel didn't go down well with a section of the audience. Amid an outrage on social media, the makers of Jai Bhim made changes to a scene to avoid hurting the sentiments of people.

In Jai Bhim, a scene shot in the film's antagonist's house features a calendar with a communal symbol. As the scene drew flak on social media, the makers have digitally altered the calendar, replacing it with a calendar featuring Goddess Lakshmi.

Apart from this, Jai Bhim courted controversy for a scene in which Prakash Raj slapped a man for speaking in Hindi. Many felt that the scene was against Hindi-speaking people. However, a huge section of people extended support to Prakash and said that the scene was misunderstood.

Jai Bhim is based on a true incident. The film highlights caste injustice faced by the Irular tribe. It is jointly produced by Suriya and Jyotika under the banner, 2D Entertainment.
