HBO Max has dropped the full official trailer for Our Flag Means Death, the OTT giant’s new period comedy starring Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby in the lead. Taika plays the infamous 18th century pirate Blackbeard while Darby plays the role of Stede Bonnet ‘a gentleman pirate’, a pampered aristocrat who abandons his life of privilege to become a pirate in the 18th century.
The trailer shows Bonnet and his ‘gentlemanly’ crew being taught the tricks-of-the-trade of pirating by Waititi’s Blackbeard which is equally hilarious. Bonnet, along with his crew is clearly dealing with a fish-out-of-water situation as they try to become pirates but with ethics and in their endeavour the dreaded Blackbeard turns out to be a hilarious damp squib.
