Netflix, in collaboration with Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment, released its web show The Fame Game on February 25 and the series went on to become the streaming giant's top hit. Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, Karishma Kohli and created-written by Sri Rao, The Fame Game stars Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Kapoor, Manav Kaul, Muskkaan Jaferi, Lakshvir Saran & Gagan Arora. The Fame Game takes us into the life of Bollywood icon Anamika Anand (played by Madhuri Dixit), who is one of the most famous women in the world. When this loving wife and mom suddenly vanishes without a trace, the question ‘Where is Anamika?’ quickly turns into ‘Who is Anamika?’ as the perfectly crafted facade of her life is stripped away, uncovering hidden truths and painful lies in the life of a global superstar. While the show opened to mixed reviews, it went on the top several lists and become globally successful through word of mouth and social media buzz by fans.
In Netflix's Global Weekly Top 10 lists of the most-watched TV and films (February 28-March 6), The Fame Game has taken the 6th position and has gone ahead to become the only Indian show on the list for that week. Earlier, Raveena Tandon's Aranyak had managed to do so in the first week of its release. The Fame Game has been viewed for 11,610,000 hours and has been in the top 10 for a week. Not only this but it has broken records of films and series like Minnal Murali, Aranyak & Haseen Dilruba in terms of viewing hours.
And if you're thinking what worked the best for the show, well, the answer is pretty simple. It has to do with Bollywood superstar Madhuri Dixit and her invincible charm and aura. The actress is the first from her generation to carry a full-fledged series on her shoulders single-handedly at 54. While other female stars have made their OTT debut at a much younger age, Madhuri took on the challenge now and proved that she is still the real deal in Bollywood. Hats off to Netflix and Dharmatic Entertainment as well for putting their bet and trust on the vertan actress who left no stone unturned to make the show what it is today.
