Yami Gautam is all set to scorch the screens playing the tough police cop character of Inspector Jyoti Deswal in the upcoming Netflix film Dasvi. She shares the screen space with Abhishek Bachchan and Nimrat Kaur. Ahead with the film’s release tomorrow, on April 7, Yami has been on a promotional spree. Now, in a recent interview she spoke about how her character has managed to shatter stereotypes and also brought her in a new light instead of the girl-next-door characters that she played during the initial days of her career.
She told an online portal, “Maybe 5 years back, I don’t think I would have gotten this opportunity. I don’t think so. A lot of people would have seen... why 5 years back, maybe 3 years back or 2 years back also, people have just gone on the appearance because something that I have heard in the past. "Aap bade soft lagte ho. Aap bade girl-next-door lagte ho", you know all those things."
She further said, “I think it takes a lot on the director’s part where I am sure, he (director Tushar Jalota) had a lot of brilliant contenders for the role. But to go by his gut and to give me this opportunity and for me to gather this confidence that it's not about the appearance but what you actually portray. The way you see, mentally and emotionally - the character, the strength that one holds in mind than just the physicality of it. So, that’s how I see the role and that’s what the film is for me.”
Dasvi is directed by Tushar Jalota who had Yami in the role of the jailer-cum-inspector even before he signed her on the film. Dasvi is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and is written by Ritesh Shah, Suresh Nair, and Sandeep Leyzell. Poet and former Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas has served as script and dialogue consultant. It is slated for a digital release on Netflix and Jio Cinema on April 7.
