The trailer of Zee5’s Rangbaaz has elicited tremendous buzz amongst the audience. Aakaksha Singh who stars as the female lead in the series spoke about the show, her character and the pull of OTT in a candid chat.
Excerpts from the interview:
Does the platform (big screen or OTT) matter to you? How do you view the changes brought about in the film industry by the expansion of OTT platforms?
The medium doesn't matter to me, what matters is good work and with OTT expansion, I feel there is work for everybody and there is good content for us to watch and also to work on. When we talk about films, yes, films have their charm i.e to go to the theatre and watch it on the big screen but I feel that the time has changed and people want to see their favorite show and films at their own comfort so OTT is a great platform to be on and to interact with the audience.
How close or different is the character from you? How easily do you slip into and out of a character?
I won't say that the character was very easy in terms of the physical transformation that I had to go through to play this character. I had dentures, a bodysuit and different looks throughout the whole series. I feel that it was a great opportunity for me to be and to do something that I have never tried before. At the same time, the character has so many brilliant things that you will get to know when you watch the show.
I don’t think the character is close to me or my personality in any sense and why I am saying this you will come to know when you watch the series. Sana is full of emotions, I would say. You really cannot judge her while watching her or know what emotions she is feeling and how will she react. When you see her actions, you will get to know that she is a different kind of a person. Not a normal character. Hence, I say that the character is nowhere similar to me.
With so much content out there, why should people invest their time in watching Rangbaaz?
Yes, there is a lot of content, but I would say that what we have created is magic. Why I am saying magic is because of its script, its brilliant and powerful story and a powerful cast and when I am saying it, I am 100 percent sure that when people watch it they will consider it as good content.
