After the success of Bulbbul, Tripti Dimri and Anvita Dutt are back with their second collaboration. Titled Qala, the film will premiere on Netflix on December 1. It marks the acting debut of Babil Khan, the elder son of Irrfan and Sutapa Sikdar. The trailer of Qala was launched on Tuesday. The film is written and directed by Anvita.
The trailer of Qala introduces us to Qala Manjushree (Tripti), a famous Bollywood singer, who is felicitated with a golden vinyl and is adored by her fans. Despite receiving adulation from people, Qala doesn't have the approval of her mother (Swastika Mukherjee). She admires Jagan (Babil), the new 'hero' in the picture who is ‘good at replacing people’. With Jagan's entry, the trailer takes a 360-degree turn and Qala loses the ability to sing. While she hated singing initially, now she struggles to keep herself relevant and popular as Jagan's career is on a rise.
The official description of Qala reads, "Set in 1940s Kolkata, Qala chronicles the complicated relationship between a young singer and her mother. Will all her sacrifices be worth the success she gets?"
Qala also stars Amit Sial, Girija Oak, Samir Kochhar and Varun Grover among others. It is produced by Karnesh Ssharma's Clean Slate Filmz.
