HBO has released the first teaser of The Sympathizer, a limited series based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The series stars Robert Downey Jr. playing multiple roles with and Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Ky Duyen, and Sandra Oh.
As per the logline, the show “is an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his resulting exile in the United States.”

The Sympathizer is directed by Park Chan-wook and will premiere on Max in 2024.
