The cop-criminal drama has been going on in Bollywood for a long time now. Taking the genre ahead is the OTT space that is too frequent in getting massy cop-criminal drama for the audiences. Joining the league is Netflix's recently-released series Khakee: The Bihar Chapter. The series stars Ashutosh Rana, Jatin Sarna, Vinay Pathak, Anup Soni, Ravi Kishan, Nikita Dutta, Karan Tacker, Avinash Tiwary, Abhimanyu Singh, Aishwarya Sushmita and Shraddha Das in lead roles. Neeraj is the show creator while Bhav Dhulia has helmed the series.
Consisting of 7 episodes, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter is a crime drama tracing the world of crime based on true events from the first half of the 2000s. Portraying the cop v/s gangster tiff, the show features Karan Tacker as the police officer while Avinash Tiwary plays the gangster. The show is based on Amit Lodha’s book Bihar Diaries and has been adapted into a screenplay by Umashankar Singh.
Khakee has brought to the forefront the inspiring story of IPS officer Amit Lodha (Karan Tacker), who gives his blood and sweat to make Bihar crime-free. Relatively new to the state of Bihar, Amit finds it challenging to relate to its citizens. Two years later, it's hard to tell if Amit was ever a local resident of Bihar. Originally from Rajasthan, Amit receives a culture shock to see that the deep-rooted caste system is largely prevalent in the state, and forms the core of their politics. The show then focuses on establishing Chandan Mahto's (Avinash Tiwary) character from an ordinary man, a local don to finally graduating as the supervillain of the series. How Amit and Chandan fight it out in this cop v/s gangster tiff is what makes Khakee an interesting watch.
However, you would be disappointed if you expected something out-of-the-box from the series. It's the same old wine in a new bottle. Same drama, same action, same cop v/s gangster face-off and same dialogue-baazi. What does work for the show, however, is its storyline which manages to keep the audiences hooked in bits and pieces.
Karan Tacker does a good job as he dons the cop uniform and gets into his character. Avinash is the surprise package as local gangster Chandan. Ashutosh Rana, Jatin Sarna, Vinay Pathak, Anup Soni, Ravi Kishan, Nikita Dutta, Abhimanyu Singh, Aishwarya Sushmita and Shraddha Das lend good support to the show with their acting skills.
Neeraj Pandey manages to create an interesting world with Khakee. Bhav Dhulia's direction is praiseworthy and apt as well. The Bihar culture is well-captured and adapted in the show.
PeepingMoon gives Khakee: The Bihar Chapter 3 Moons!
