Showers of style at Anamika Khanna's opening showcase of FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week

Yes, it has started … physical and fizzical! After the cocktail hour, it was showtime, folks! We’re talking about the FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week that staged an opening showcase at Nita Ambani’s Fountain of Joy at Dhirubhai Ambani Square at Jio World Centre.

All was ok, or perhaps we should say ak-ok, for that’s what delightful designer Anamika Khanna calls her pret line that heralded the start of the five-day fashion feast. It got dull in the evening and it looked like it would rain, but heaven was kind in the alfresco area. And while it did not rain there were showers of style that caught your eye as the models walked around the spacious setting and into your heart. The mesmerising music and wondrous water at the dancing fountain added to the appeal.

On view were white cottons, prints in silk, handmade shiboris with the peeping in of pieces of denim casually. Uneven hems, the use of soft fabric manipulations in chiffon and embroidery in various forms made the collection almost intangible. The use of 3D floral shapes, fluidity in tailoring, contrasting with structure sometimes, appearances of yellows and reds and the use of black, indigo and emerald kept the colour palette surprising. From draped dresses to pyjama sets, the collection featured innovative ways of draping with a splash of colour on fluid silhouettes.

Anamika's style story began at home and went on to travel the whimsical, yet relaxed road, making every journey its own. Be it a draped dress, pyjama set, jacket or the quintessentially timeless white kurta, this collection is a colour-infused version of the designer’s personal style, with the diversity of apparel being created to find its essence with the wearer as they see fit.
