Sonu Nigam, who was performing at a concert in Chembur on Monday evening, was attacked by some unidentified men. His team member, Rabbani Khan and a bodyguard were injured in the scuffle while trying to protect the singer when those men approached him for a selfie on stage. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. While Sonu escaped unhurt, Rabbani and the bodyguard were immediately taken to the hospital and the Mumbai police lodged a complaint against one person. Reportedly, no arrest has been made in the matter.
Talking about the incident, Sonu told a media agency, "After the concert, I was coming down from stage when a man held me. Then he pushed Hari & Rabbani who came to save me. Then I fell on steps. Rabbani could have died today if there were some iron rods lying down. He was pushed in such a way... you could see in the video...Even I was about to fall." The singer further confirmed filing a police complaint. He shared, "I filed a complaint so that people should think about the consequences when they try to get a selfie or pictures forcefully, there was a commotion, dhakka mukki, arrogance..…"
A police officer told reporters that a case has been registered under IPC sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) based on Sonu's complaint.
According to reports, the accused is said to be Uddhav Thackeray-headed Shiv Sena's MLA Prakash Phaterpekar's son Swapnil Phaterpekar and his goons.
