The much-awaited MET Gala for the year has finally come to an end and oh boy, seems like everyone came prepared! Held on May 2 at 6 PM ET, the Oscars of Fashion witnessed an unleashed sartorial extravaganza on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The crème de la crème of the fashion industry left no stone unturned to rock this year’s theme " Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’." While some honoured the designer by wearing interpretations of the iconic couture, others took a different route for paying tribute. Doja Cat, Jared Leto and Lil Nas X came dressed as Karl’s pet cat Choupette and may we say, it was just purr-fect!
With ‘Cat’ being her last name, Doja’s interpretation of furry white Choupette was bang on point. The diva dazzled on the beige carpet in a custom Oscar De La Renta mermaid gown with a cat-eared hood embellished with crystals and beads. Adding fuzziness and fluffiness to the attire of her backless couture was the stunning white feather train. While the outfit surely played its part precisely, it was the glam that stole the thunder. The claw-like nail extensions, the prosthetic nose, and the winged cat eyes were just…*chef’s kiss* Lastly, those stunning diamond jewels made her Met Gala appearance all the more dazzling. She definitely understood the assignment!
Fusing the themes of 2019 and 2023, Lil Nas X ‘camped’ his way to the gala to honour Karl Lagerfeld in nothing but body paint, crystals and a Dior thong! Baring it all, the pop star dazzled in silver paint with crystal embellishments stuck all over and a stunning bejeweled mask with whiskers that signified he dressed as Choupette. For his Met look, Nas worked with celebrated makeup artist Pat McGrath. P.S. Can we please talk about those stunning boots?!
While these two interpreted the versions of Karl’s cat, Jared took things a notch higher and came in a furry cat suit (pun intended)
