After Virgil Abloh, Louis Vuitton names singer Pharrell Williams as it’s new men’s creative director

Hip-hop artist Pharrell Williams has been named the new director of menswear at renowned fashion label Louis Vuitton, the company said on Tuesday. After the death of Virgil Abloh from cancer in November 2021, Pharrell stepped in to fill the void.

The 49-year-old has been a constant in the front row of fashion shows for years and is a well-known star in the music industry with 13 Grammy awards and two Oscar nominations.

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.” said Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman and CEO.

He will debut his Louis Vuitton collection in June in Paris at Men's Fashion Week. Williams has previously ventured into the fashion industry. Along with the French fashion label, he also collaborated artistically with the world's largest sportswear brand, Adidas, as well as the luxury labels Moncler and Chanel. Along with fashion designer Marc Jacobs, he had also designed eyewear for LV and  also helped launch the firms Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear, and his brand Humanrace ventured in the skincare business.

"His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter," the brand's new chairman and CEO, Pietro Beccari, said in the statement.
