10 Year Special: A look back at Shershaah Sidharth Malhotra’s best performances

Sidharth Malhotra burst on the silver screen along with Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year. The film released ten years back on October 19, 2012 and hence today marks a decade of Sidharth’s eventful journey in Bollywood. Despite getting a humongous launch in SOTY under the Dharma Productions banner Sidharth could not replicate the same success as his debut film and neither could match the box office success of his co-stars Varun and Alia but that changed in 2021 when he lead from the front and reigned supreme over every one with Shershaah.

Sidharth has had an extremely fluctuating journey in Bollywood but despite not raking in the moolah with his films, the actor was never panned for his performance. In fact, all his films managed to score decently at the box office and he was appreciated for his acting chops. Here’s a look at Sidharth’s top 5 films that proves he was, is and always remain a Shershaah.

Student of the Year

Sidharth impressed everyone with his acting prowess as the suave, sensitive and practical guy in Student of the Year (2012). He made every young girl swoon over his good looks and persona. The actor shined in his debut film and was nominated for Filmfare Best Debut Award as well.

Hasee Toh Phasee

Hasee Toh Phasee (2014) is a romantic comedy-drama film that starred Sidharth and Parineeti Chopra in the lead. The film received positive reviews from critics, with praise for its story, music, humor, cinematography and cast performances. Sidharth and Parineeti’s chemistry was lauded by the critics as well as the audience that made the film believable and interesting. Hasee Toh Phasee brought a different take to modern day romance that was both refreshing and a solid act put together.

Ek Villain

Ek Villain: There’s One in Every Love Story (2014) is an action thriller film that saw Sidharth paired opposite Shraddha Kapoor. The film also stars Riteish Deshmukh as the antagonist. This was the first time the actor was seen in an action and somewhat serious role and he did perfect justice to it.

Kapoor & Sons

Kapoor & Sons or Kapoor & Sons (Since 1921) released in 2016 and had Sidharth reuniting with his SOTY co-star Alia Bhatt. The film also starred Rishi Kapoor, Fawad Khan, Ratna Pathak Shah and Rajat Kapoor. The film follows two estranged brothers who return to their dysfunctional family after their grandfather suffers a cardiac arrest. Sidharth and his ensemble cast received rave reviews from the critics and the film was a box office success. The actor proved his mettle as well as the fact that he can hold his own in an ensemble star cast with the film.

Shershaah

Sidharth finally came into his own with Vishnu Varadhan’s directorial Shershaah (2021). The biographical war film is based on the life of Captain Vikram Batra, a Kargil War martyr and hero who was instrumental in reclaiming the Kargil peak in the Indo-Pakistan Kargil war of 1999. Sidharth lead from the front and played the titular role of Shershaah aka Captain Vikram Batra in the film. He was paired opposite Kiara Advani in the film. The film had become the most watched Indian film on the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. Sidharth received a Best Actor nomination for the film at the 67th Filmfare Awards.
