Prepare to meet a new fellowship. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power elaborates on the beloved canon of J.R.R. Tolkien, juggling 22 stars and multiple story lines during the Second Age of Middle-earth. Set to premiere in September, the series is anchored by the incident that gave the original trilogy its name. The first look images of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power were unveiled giving first glimpse of the actors.
Prime Video’s The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared reemergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
At its core, #TheRingsOfPower takes its biggest cue from the heart of Tolkien’s books. “It’s about friendship,” says McKay. “It’s about brotherhood and underdogs overcoming great darkness.”

What of Sauron? Or Isildur, the warrior who cuts the One Ring off the villain’s hand? “The speculation is welcome,” says Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. But the secrecy that has blanketed this series is finally lifting. https://t.co/Tabxf9CzoL

In a bold move, #TheRingsOfPower condenses Tolkien’s Middle-earth timeline and adds entirely new characters. Sophia Nomvete’s dwarven princess, Disa, and Ismael Cruz Córdova’s Silvan elf, Arondir, broaden the notion of who lives in Middle-earth.

Despite being set thousands of years before the stories we know, familiar immortals do turn up as their younger selves: Morfydd Clarke as the elven queen Galadriel, now a hardscrabble warrior leading the Northern Armies.

Patrick McKay and JD Payne are first-time showrunners undertaking a daunting task for Tolkien fan Jeff Bezos. Their series—based not on a novel but the Middle-earth prehistory attached to the end of #LOTR—will be the costliest TV show ever.

#TheRingsOfPower, set within Tolkien’s Second Age, will juggle 22 stars and multiple storylines—from deep within the dwarf mines to the elven kingdom of Lindon. Here, the adventures of the fellowship are still some 2,000 years in the future.
